Blog 86: L for Laziness

Hi everyone! Happy Word Wednesday! My name is Grace Sundaram. Today’s topic for Word Wednesday is “L for Laziness”.

Laziness is something we all struggle with, especially as the school year kicks off. That temptation to do nothing when there's so much to be done is a powerful one. But the Bible offers a clear perspective on this struggle. Proverbs 6:6 tells us to "Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise!" It's a humbling reminder that even the tiniest creatures are diligent and hard-working.

The Scriptures also connect diligence to a greater purpose. Proverbs 12:24 says, "Diligent hands will rule, but laziness ends in forced labor." It's a sobering thought that a lack of effort can lead to negative consequences. But beyond that, laziness can be seen as a form of rebellion against God. Colossians 3:23 says: "Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men." This verse reframes our work entirely. It tells us that our effort—in our studies, our jobs, or our daily tasks—is a form of worship. When we work hard, we are not just doing it for ourselves; we are stewarding our time and energy to honor God, which means that wasting our time is not God-honoring.

Of course, this doesn't mean we should never relax or have fun. We need to find that balance between rest and diligence. The temptation is to let fun take over, especially when work gets tough. But a life honoring God requires us to be wise stewards of our time. It's about ensuring we don't just prioritize leisure but also make room for hard work.

I hope you guys have a great week, and God bless you!
