Blog 84: Back In School

Hey GYB Fam! Welcome back to another Word Wednesday post.

As we near the end of another school year, something hit me—a sudden realization. I’m taking AP US Government this year, and as I’ve been learning about landmark Supreme Court cases and Jefferson’s belief in the separation of church and state, it really got me thinking. What we’re taught in school—math, science, history, and ELA—will help us pay the bills one day, but our souls? They can still remain restless. Today’s topic: “Back In School.”

God never intended for religion to be separate from government, and neither did the Founding Fathers. In fact, many of the principles they built this nation on were deeply influenced by their faith. As I’ve been learning in my AP US Government class, the separation of church and state is often misunderstood, especially when it comes to the intentions of those who laid the foundation of our country. Proverbs 14:34 says, “Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin condemns any people.”

Something that confuses me is how we pray for God to keep our country in His care, yet we hesitate to involve Him in political matters. It’s ironic, but also confusing and, honestly, unwise. I can’t even pull up my pants after going to the bathroom without God’s help, so how can we expect to navigate the complexities of government and make life-changing decisions and laws without His guidance?

So, I want to encourage you, brothers and sisters, to find a way—no matter where you are, what you’re doing, or who you’re talking to—to bring God back into our schools. Be the first to start a Bible study, or take some action. Don’t wait for someone else to lead; be the change.
