Blog 91: How to Dress Yourself in God’s Love (Every Day)
Happy Word Wednesday, Family! 🤎
I hope you’re well and enjoying the changing seasons. Goodbye heat and hello fall! Today’s topic is a good one (Drum roll please)…
How to Dress Yourself in God’s Love — Every Day
📝 The practical how-to.
You wouldn't wear the same outfit to every event.
So why do we expect one Bible verse we heard on Sunday to carry us through every situation Monday–Saturday?
And again… I didn’t hold your hand. 😂
Every day, we have a choice about what we're going to put on—our thoughts, our attitudes, our words (and sometimes other people's words), our responses, and ultimately, what we're allowing to shape us.
Instead of letting other people's labels define us, what if we took every thought captive and pressed it against God's Word?
So, let's talk about the seven pieces of the spiritual wardrobe we can intentionally put on every day.
👗 1. Put on Your Identity
Before you put on everyone else's expectations, remember who God says you are.
Ephesians 2:10 (NIV):
“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”
Daily practice:
Start your morning by speaking one truth about your identity before checking your phone.
Because sometimes the very device in our hands can become a way the enemy gets access to our thoughts—whether through social media, a text message, a song, or something else.
Before you let the world tell you who you are, let God remind you first.
👚 2. Put on God's Word
You can't dress yourself in truth if you don't know what truth says.
Daily practice:
Read a portion of Scripture. I personally like to study about 3–6 verses at a time.
Then choose ONE verse to carry with you throughout the day.
Baby steps are a very small, manageable action toward a larger goal.
You can't swallow two scoops of ice cream in one bite—unless you enjoy brain freeze. 😂
And you can't expect to swallow all of God's Word at once, either.
Just like you take 10–15 minutes to actually enjoy your treat, give yourself time to sit with God's Word.
Read it.
Think about it.
Pray about it.
Then carry it with you.
👟 3. Put on Obedience
Sometimes the right outfit isn't the most comfortable one.
God may ask you to do something you don't feel like doing.
Daily practice:
Ask:
“God, what are You asking me to do today?”
Then actually do it.
Because the truest form of obedience isn't doing what God said when it's convenient.
It's doing what He told you to do without changing it to fit your comfort.
🧥 4. Put on Compassion
Colossians 3:12 says:
“Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.”
THIS is literally biblical wardrobe language. 😂
Daily practice:
Choose one person you can intentionally:
encourage, serve, forgive, or be patient with.
Cough.
Siblings.
Cough.
You know exactly who I'm talking about. 😂
👠 5. Put on Confidence—Not Comparison
You don't need someone else's outfit, life, calling, body, platform, or timeline.
What God is doing in someone else's life does not cancel what He's doing in yours.
Daily practice:
When comparison shows up, replace:
“I wish I had what they have.”
with:
“God, thank You for what You are doing in me.”
I once heard someone say:
“What God has for you is for you, and your mail will never be delivered to someone else's mailbox.”
Can I get an amen?!
Because your assignment doesn't become less valuable just because someone else's looks different.
👜 6. Put on Self-Control
Not every thought needs a microphone.
Not every emotion needs an immediate response.
Not every comment deserves a reply.
Daily practice:
Before reacting, pause and ask:
“Does this response reflect who God is calling me to be?”
Sit with that.
Because that was way too good to casually slide past. 😂
👑 7. Put on Love
And this is the finishing piece.
Because ultimately, we're not dressing ourselves in perfection.
We're dressing ourselves in God's love so that we can carry that love into the world.
Daily practice:
Before you leave the house, ask:
“Who can experience God's love through me today?”
THAT'S A DAILY ASSIGNMENT.
Not just:
“How can God bless me today?”
But:
“God, who can experience You through me today?”
☀️ What Does That Look Like in Real Life?
Think of it like getting dressed for different events.
☀️ Monday — School / Work
Outfit: Identity + Purpose
💬 Tuesday — Difficult Conversation
Outfit: Patience + Self-Control
📱 Wednesday — Social Media
Outfit: Confidence + Discernment
😔 Thursday — Hard Day
Outfit: God's Word + Trust
🫶 Friday — Friendships
Outfit: Compassion + Love
🙏 Saturday — Serving
Outfit: Humility + Obedience
☀️ Sunday — Reset
Outfit: Rest + Worship
Obviously, these aren't rigid assignments.
The point is that different moments require us to intentionally practice different aspects of what God has already given us.
God has already given us His Word, His Spirit, His love, His truth, and the gifts and purpose He has placed within us.
Our job isn't to manufacture something that isn't there.
It's to walk in what He's given us, nurture what He's growing in us, and continually return to Him when we need to be replenished.
👗 So… What Are You Wearing?
Before you walk out the door each morning, don't just ask:
“What am I wearing?”
Ask:
“Who am I putting on?”
Last week on the podcast, we asked:
What are you wearing?
→ Identity. Labels. Comparison. God's perspective.
This week on the blog, we're asking:
How do I dress myself in God's love?
→ Seven practical ways to live it out.
And now, in real life, I'm asking:
Now that you're aware and equipped… what are you going to do about it?
Because knowing the truth is one thing.
Walking it out is another.
